F316 Stainless Steel Ball Valves

ASTM A182 F316 is a forged/wrought stainless grade used where austenitic stainless corrosion resistance is required. Material alone does not determine whether a ball valve is floating, trunnion mounted or top entry.

Technical buying guidance

F316 versus F316L

The carbon limit differs between the specified grades. Do not substitute grades or claim identical corrosion or welding performance without checking the purchase specification.

Forged F316 versus cast CF8M

F316 and CF8M are different material standards and product forms. Material equivalence or substitution requires engineering acceptance rather than SEO-level assumptions.

Material scope

Define whether F316 applies to the body only, body and cover, stem, ball or all wetted parts. A 316 body with different seat or trim materials is not an all-316 valve.

How to submit the RFQ

State valve type, ASTM A182 F316, nominal size, class, connections, medium, temperature, desired seat, test standards and quantity.

Material grades, pressure classes, valve dimensions, tests and certification requirements must be confirmed for the actual offered configuration. No stock status or certification is implied by this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is F316 a forged valve body grade?

Yes, ASTM A182 F316 is a forged or wrought material designation.

Is F316 the same as CF8M?

No. These are different product forms and specifications; verify any proposed substitution.

What to include in your valve RFQ

Material selection must follow the process medium, temperature, pressure boundary product form and project corrosion criteria.

Please specify the exact ASTM/ASME or UNS grade for body and trim separately, and whether material testing, PMI or EN 10204 documentation is required.

Availability, suitability and inspection scope are confirmed during review of the complete valve datasheet.
